Golo Brdo

Golo Brdo is another tiny village in Slovenia but not far from the Italian border.

The area is called Brda, in the Slovenian language and Collio in Italian. It is an area quite popular for its precious wines and it is considered the Slovenian Tuscany because it is full of rolling hills topped with small villages and churches, and grapevines and orchards everywhere.

In Golo Brdo there are few houses and a beautiful church, which is dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

The church is on a hill overlooking the village and is quite simple with a nice bell tower. They say that under the altar of the church there is a cave full of water and the church was built by a rich man in the Middle Ages whose son had fallen in the cave but could survive.

As a matter of fact the full name of the church is St. Mary of the Lake, maybe because in ancient times there used to be a lake in the flat land below.

The area around the village is really nice and you can meet sheep and horses grazing in the fields nearby.

In spring and summer the area is covered with flowers and it is so relaxing to find a place, sit there and enjoy the view
