Waterfalls in Slovenia

The Littoral region of Slovenia offers a lot of gems that have only to be discovered. One of these is near Drežnica, a small village in the Municipality of Kobarid.

The name of the village means forest creek and its parish was founded in 1747.

Drežnica is located above the Soča River (Isonzo in the Italian language) on a small plateau under Mount Krn, in the Julian Alps.

In the pictures you can see the village and its church, which is dedicated to the Sacred Heart.

While hiking in the area you can easily hear the church bells ring to tell you what time it is.

The area around the village is superb with a lot of streams and waterfalls. Nature at its best!

And it is February, I can't imagine how beautiful it must be in spring or summer.

Yesterday we went to see Sopota and Krampez waterfalls, which are few minutes from the village. The walk is short and easy and on the way you see a fountain with running water which comes directly from a creek. Maybe it was used for animals

The first waterfall you see is Sopota, It is quite high and it must be impressive when there is a lot of water. Yesterday it was quite rich but not impetuous as it probably is after a rainy period.

All around there are smaller waterfalls and the noise of the water is the only one you hear.

After few steps you reach Slap Krampez which drops down over more than 20 meters, even though you can only see two of them at its base. The water in the pool is absolutely transparent!

During our walk we could spot a lot of flowers!

Snowdrops and primroses

                 crocuses

pulmonaria (lungwort)

coltsfoot

and hellebores
